How Spanish Has Changed My Life
I’ve always been interested in learning languages ever since I could remember. But because I went to Mexico with my family many times growing up, Spanish has always on of those languages that interested me the most. And a lot of people will agree with me when I say, it is the most beautiful language in the world. Almost like the language of love. Even saying good morning in Spanish, just feels different.
But to the point about it changing my life. Well first, I never thought I could actually learn a language as an adult because of all the things you hear people say like “you have to learn it as a baby”, or “you have to live in the country that speaks it”. Both of those are completely false. You can learn it as an adult and you can learn it from the comfort of your own home. Of course, living in a country that speaks Spanish is most likely the fastest way, but not everyone can just ship their lives to these places, nor want to. So number 1, learning Spanish has showed me that our brains are adaptable, even as adults. And limitations are just things we place on our own minds.
Secondly, it would be how close I got to certain people. It has helped me to diffuse arguments that otherwise possibly would have been bad. It’s the secret connection that no one talks about. Because learning someone’s language takes a lot of respect for that language and culture. Nevermind the work that it takes and the fear you have to get past to practice the language.
Lastly, it has shown me how much I love to teach other people. I’ve always been good at coaching people in fitness, but what i realized is that passion for helping others is simply innate. It brings me so much joy when I see other people use their Spanish that I’ve helped them with.
